Privacy Policy #

Effective Date: March 23, 2026

ViZi (“we”, “us”, “our”) built StoryLingo (“the App”) as a free application for language learning. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use StoryLingo.

1. Summary #

Your learning data stays on your device.

All data you create in StoryLingo — stories, vocabulary, review history, settings, and streaks — is stored exclusively on your device and never leaves it. StoryLingo also uses Firebase Analytics for anonymous usage statistics and Google AdMob to display ads that help keep the app free.

2. Data Stored Locally on Your Device #

StoryLingo stores the following data locally using SQLite on your device:

  • Stories you have added (text content, metadata, source language)
  • Vocabulary words derived from your stories
  • Spaced repetition review history and scheduling data
  • Your learning streak and daily progress
  • App settings (theme, notification preferences, display language)
  • Onboarding completion status

This data is stored only on your device. We have no access to it.

3. Data Collection #

What stays on your device (we have no access):

  • Stories, vocabulary, review history, settings, and learning streaks
  • Personal annotations and notes

What we do NOT collect:

  • Your name, email address, phone number, or any personal identifier
  • We do not require user accounts or registration
  • We do not operate backend servers that receive your learning data

Third-party services that collect data:

  • Firebase Analytics (Google): Collects anonymous usage statistics such as screen views and feature usage. Your learning content is not included. Requires your consent — you are asked on first launch and can change this at any time in Settings → Privacy. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
  • Google AdMob (Google): Displays ads and may collect device identifiers and ad interaction data to serve relevant advertising. See Google’s Privacy Policy.

4. AI-Generated Content #

StoryLingo uses a prompt-based workflow: you copy a prompt template, paste it into a third-party AI service of your choice (such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini), and paste the AI’s response back into the App.

  • We do not send any requests to AI services on your behalf
  • Your interactions with third-party AI services are governed by those services’ own privacy policies
  • The AI-generated text you paste into StoryLingo is stored only on your device

5. Push Notifications #

StoryLingo uses local push notifications to deliver your daily sentence reminders. These notifications are:

  • Scheduled entirely on your device
  • Not processed through external notification servers
  • Not used to collect usage data

You can enable or disable notifications at any time in your device’s Settings.

6. Internet Connectivity #

Your learning data is stored and accessed entirely offline. The App does make network requests for Firebase Analytics and Google AdMob — these services require an internet connection. The core learning experience (reading stories, vocabulary reviews, daily sentences) works fully offline.

7. Children’s Privacy #

StoryLingo is designed for users aged 13 and older. The App uses Google AdMob, which may show interest-based advertising. If you are under 13, please use the App only with parental supervision. Google AdMob is configured to apply appropriate privacy protections consistent with applicable children’s privacy laws including COPPA.

8. Data Retention & Deletion #

You have full control over your data:

  • Clear All Data: Settings → Clear All Data removes all stories, vocabulary, and review history from your device
  • Uninstall: Removing the App from your device deletes all associated data permanently
  • There is no server-side data to request deletion of — all data is only on your device

9. Analytics Consent & Opt-Out #

Firebase Analytics is only enabled with your consent. When you first launch StoryLingo, you will be asked whether you agree to share anonymous usage data.

You can change your preference at any time:

  • Open the App and go to Settings → Privacy
  • Toggle Share Analytics on or off

Disabling analytics has no effect on any App functionality. Your learning data and experience remain exactly the same.

10. Data Security #

For your learning data (stories, vocabulary, review history):

  • Stored locally and protected by your device’s built-in encryption (iOS Data Protection / Android Encryption)
  • Never sent to our servers — there is no server-side storage of your learning data
  • Not accessible to us

Firebase Analytics and AdMob data is transmitted to Google’s servers and subject to Google’s security practices.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy #

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Effective Date”. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
