Which AI services work with StoryLingo?
Any text-based AI assistant works. Common options: ChatGPT (chat.openai.com), Claude (claude.ai), and Gemini (gemini.google.com). StoryLingo does not connect to any AI service directly — you copy and paste the result yourself.
What languages does StoryLingo support?
StoryLingo can handle any language. The app itself is in English, but your stories can be in any language you are learning — English, Japanese, Spanish, French, Korean, Arabic, German, and more. The prompt templates are designed to work with any target language you specify.
What are CEFR levels?
CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is an international standard for measuring language proficiency. It ranges from A1 (complete beginner) through B1/B2 (intermediate) to C2 (near-native mastery). When selecting a prompt template in StoryLingo, you choose a CEFR level so the AI generates a story matched to your current ability.
Daily Study #
How does the daily sentence work?
Each day StoryLingo surfaces one sentence from your active story. You read the sentence, its grammar note, and vocabulary breakdown. When you are ready, you rate your understanding using the recall buttons (Again / Hard / Good / Easy).
How does review scheduling work?
StoryLingo uses a science-backed spaced repetition algorithm proven to improve long-term memory. Based on your recall rating after each review, the algorithm models your personal forgetting curve and calculates the optimal next review date so you study just before you would forget.
Can I study more than one sentence per day?
Yes. After completing your daily sentence, you can tap Review Vocabulary to practice vocabulary cards from any of your stories at any time.
Does StoryLingo work offline?
Yes. Once your stories are imported, the App works completely offline. No internet connection is required for study, review, or any other feature.
Notifications #
How do I set up daily reminders?
Go to Settings → Notifications and enable daily reminders. Choose your preferred reminder time. The notification is scheduled locally on your device — no external servers are involved.
I’m not receiving notifications.
Check your device settings: Settings → Notifications → StoryLingo and ensure notifications are allowed. On iOS, also check that Focus Mode is not blocking the App.
Data & Privacy #
Does StoryLingo collect my data?
Your learning data (stories, vocabulary, review history) is stored locally on your device and never leaves it. StoryLingo uses Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage statistics to help improve the app. Your learning content is never sent anywhere. See our Privacy Policy for the full details.
How do I delete all my data?
Go to Settings → Clear All Data inside the App. This removes all stories, vocabulary, and review history from your device. Alternatively, uninstalling the App removes everything.
Can I back up my data?
In the current version, data is stored only on your device. There is no cloud backup. To avoid data loss, keep the App installed and do not use “Clear All Data” unless you want to start fresh.
Troubleshooting #
My imported story shows formatting issues.
This can happen if the AI response included extra formatting characters (asterisks, pound signs, etc.). Edit the story text in StoryLingo to clean it up, or ask the AI to “respond in plain text without markdown formatting” and reimport.
The app seems slow after importing a very long story.
Very long stories (hundreds of sentences) may take a moment to process. For the best experience, import stories of 20–50 sentences at a time.
My streak reset unexpectedly.
A streak requires completing at least one study session per calendar day. If you missed a day or completed your session after midnight, the streak resets. Streaks are tracked in your device’s local time zone.
